The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger Over Size Modifications

Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.

This online marketplace has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.

Social Media Response

Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification versus the original listing because of the remapping.

The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.

They have suggested members to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, which has left users frustrated.

Measurement Approach Changes

Before the change, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Member Experiences

One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

A different member, from Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.

"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she stated.

Necessary Adjustments

Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.

Platform Context

The app has more than 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.

It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
