The January transfer market is typically a time of intense rumour and possible big-money transfers. Several notable players are being connected to transfers out of their current teams. This article explores a selection of the major names that might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the AFCON, this has kept the player available, indications are a major transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week period in early January. Recent developments point to Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

This English defender has continued to excel for Palace despite a summer move to Liverpool collapsing. As his contract set to expire in the close season, this represents the London club's last opportunity to secure a fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including Manchester City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. Yet, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Wales winger has had starting minutes limited at Spurs this term. Despite being the side's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has begun just a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London club is open to a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an interest.

Spurs rate the Welsh international at approximately £40m.

R. Neves

This Portugal playmaker could be set for a comeback to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still just 28, while his agreement expiring in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the player. Additionally, there are rumours from Spain that he would be willing to accept a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça under the manager Flick. Having lost his place and had an operation, a January exit looks highly probable. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that option now appears off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven England striker has kept finding the net regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling chances of making the national World Cup. But, securing a transfer presents major hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous salary render any agreement difficult. Juventus are eager to secure the youngster to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to retain one of Europe's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to make a big-money move this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around £22 million.
